version originale: We are still in urgent need of your donations. 8 months on from the Tohoku disaster and we are entering a new phase of this terrible tragedy. Many of the impromptu rescue centres that sprang up in the vicinity of the quake are still packed with animals. Some are starting to buckle under the strain. They are turning to us for help and of course we are doing what we can...   Ordinary evacuees who managed to hold on to their pets are often now living in cramped temporary accommodation. This can place terrible pressure on relationships. Some stressed owners are finding it to be just too much - and need a place for their animals to go. Helping the pet is helping the human who loves it, but can no longer cope. In the aftermath of the Kobe earthquake in 1995 we saw a large bump in the number of animals we were asked to take in 6 to 12 months after the quake - and it looks like that pattern is repeating itself. So we expect the demands on us to increase over the coming months, not decrease. The Tohoku quake may be out of the headlines - but the human and animal tragedy persists.
